Jazz at the Lescar Presents: Shirley Smart Trio

Join us for this vibrant and dynamic trio led by one of the UK’s most versatile and creative cellists, Shirley Smart.

In this trio she combines influences as well as her experiences living and working in Jerusalem with the overlapping worlds of jazz, Arabic, Turkish and North African music. Energetic and inspiring melodies, grooves and expressive improvisation are brought thrillingly alive by Shirley and her musical companions, John Crawford on piano, and Demi Garcia Sabat on drums and percussion.

Shirley has worked with artists including Avishai Cohen, Omer Avital, Yasmin Levy, Mulatu Astatke, Neil Cowley, Robert Mitchell, Misha Mullov-Abbado, Nikki Yeoh and Alice Zawadzki, and most recently she has released a duo album with pianist Robert Mitchell on Sheffield-based Discus Records.
